What do you tell yourself about money? Is it a dirty word?

What stories about money did you inherit from those around you? Here are some of mine – ‘Women can’t be trusted with money.’ ‘Women don’t know how to budget.’

Often stories that were part of our formative years become a script that we run through our minds as adults. We keep reminding ourselves by running the script over and over.

No matter how successful we are in life our money stories can hold us back from sovereignty and true financial freedom.

As women working to become financially independent one of the most important things we can do is overcome our limiting beliefs about money. By developing a healthy relationship with money we can ensure that these stories are not carried through to the next generation.

In order to develop a healthy relationship with money we first need to determine what our purpose for money actually is. Ask yourself what do I need money for?

Money enables so many of our wants to be manifested…. Get clear on your desired life. Then you’ll be clear on your purpose for money.

– Danielle LaPorte

I love this quote from Danielle LaPorte’s book, The Fire Starter Sessions: A soulful and practical guide for creating success on your own terms.

It doesn’t have to be hard or complicated. In fact the simpler the better. Work out what you want your life to look like and work out exactly what your purpose is for money. Everyone’s is different.

Mine is:

  • To help women business owners like you feel great about making money
  • To support causes that are near and dear to my heart and volunteer my skills and expertise to give back
  • To have the freedom to support my daughter in the life she desires
  • To enable me to be an active participant in my community
  • For my business to give me location freedom

Once you are clear on why you want to make money now you need to shift your mindset to be open to receive it. This is a big deal. Identify what blocks you may have that are holding you back.

Having a profitable business that makes you wealthy is not all about your money mindset, but mindset does go a long way towards making money.

Our aim as business women is to create a strong financial foundation that can support ourselves, our family and our community. Financial security provides the opportunity to be dedicated to our purpose and life goals.
